The Challenge
DC Global Freight was appointed to coordinate the movement of oversized and heavy concrete bridge sections and concrete mattresses from Great Yarmouth to Dakar, Senegal.
The concrete bridge sections measured 7.00m × 3.80m × 2.01m and weighed 36,160 kg per unit, requiring specialist out-of-gauge transport planning and 40ft flat rack equipment.
The project required coordination of the cargo movement from Great Yarmouth to London Gateway, preparation for export shipment and onward ocean freight to Dakar.
The Solution
DC Global Freight coordinated the shipment using eight 40ft flat racks, comprising six flat racks carrying concrete bridge sections and two flat racks carrying concrete mattresses.
The cargo was transported from Great Yarmouth to London Gateway for export, with the oversized bridge sections secured to flat rack equipment for the ocean movement to Dakar.
The operation required careful coordination between the transport, port and shipping elements of the project to manage the heavy and out-of-gauge cargo through each stage of the shipment.
The Outcome
The project provided a coordinated logistics solution for the movement of specialist concrete infrastructure cargo from the UK to Senegal, combining heavy transport, OOG flat rack equipment, port handling and international sea freight.
