Heavy machinery prepared for breakbulk shipping

Breakbulk Trencher Shipment – Dakar to Blyth

Shipment Overview
Origin: Dakar, Senegal
Transhipment Port: Antwerp, Belgium
Final Port: Blyth, United Kingdom
Freight Mode: Breakbulk Sea Freight | Feeder Vessel | OOG Flat Rack
Cargo: Oversized Trencher & Associated Project Equipment
Project Type: Breakbulk Export | OOG Project Cargo | Cost-Optimised Routing

The Challenge
DC Global Freight was appointed to coordinate the return movement of an oversized trencher and associated project cargo from Dakar, Senegal to Blyth in the United Kingdom.

The trencher was unsuitable for conventional containerised transport and required specialist breakbulk handling. Additional operational challenges were present at origin, where sections of port fencing and gates had to be temporarily removed to create sufficient access for the oversized cargo to reach the loading area.

A direct part charter could have provided a more straightforward routing, but transit time was not the principal concern. The priority was to identify the most cost-effective viable shipping solution while maintaining appropriate control over handling and vessel connections.

The shipment therefore required careful planning around vessel availability, port access, transhipment and the differing transport requirements of the cargo pieces.

The Solution
DC Global Freight arranged for the trencher to be loaded in Dakar as breakbulk cargo with top-deck stowage for shipment to Antwerp.

On arrival in Antwerp, the movement was coordinated so that the trencher could be discharged directly to a waiting feeder vessel for onward transport to Blyth.

This routing provided a substantially more cost-effective alternative to arranging a part charter while still maintaining a controlled end-to-end movement.

The remaining project cargo was shipped separately using flat rack equipment, allowing the transport method for each cargo piece to be selected according to its dimensions, weight and handling requirements.

By combining breakbulk and OOG containerised transport within the same overall project, DC Global Freight was able to match the shipping method to the individual cargo characteristics rather than forcing the full shipment into a single transport solution.

The Result
The trencher was successfully routed from Dakar to Blyth via Antwerp using a coordinated breakbulk and feeder vessel solution.

The project achieved the customer’s priority of cost efficiency over transit speed, while also managing the specialist port access, breakbulk loading and transhipment requirements associated with the oversized cargo.

The remaining equipment moved on flat racks, demonstrating how breakbulk and OOG container shipping can be combined within a single project movement to create a practical and commercially efficient logistics solution.

Time-Critical Bulldozer Delivery – Felixstowe to UK Trade Show

Shipment Overview

Origin: Shanghai, China
Port of Discharge: Felixstowe, United Kingdom
Freight Mode: OOG Flat Rack Sea Freight | Specialist Road Transport
Cargo: Shantui DH20-M LGP Bulldozer & Toolbox of Parts
Gross Weight: 23,572 kg
Volume: 75.144 CBM
Equipment: 1 × 40ft Flat Rack
Project Type: OOG Import | Flat Rack Unloading | Time-Critical Delivery

The Challenge

DC Global Freight was appointed to coordinate the UK handling and final delivery of a Shantui DH20-M LGP bulldozer arriving at the Port of Felixstowe from Shanghai, China.

The machine had been shipped as out-of-gauge cargo on a 40ft flat rack, with a gross shipment weight of 23,572 kg. Due to the dimensions and configuration of the bulldozer, specialist securing and timber supports had been used for the ocean freight movement.

The critical element of the project was the delivery deadline.

The cargo arrived over the weekend and the importer required the bulldozer to be available by Monday in order to present the machine at a trade show.

This left a very restricted operational window to coordinate the release of the cargo, arrange specialist unloading from the flat rack and complete the onward delivery within the required deadline.

The Solution

DC Global Freight coordinated the operation around the weekend arrival and the fixed Monday delivery requirement.

Once the cargo became available, arrangements were made for the bulldozer to be safely removed from the 40ft flat rack, including the release of the securing arrangements used to protect and restrain the machine during the ocean voyage.

The operation required close coordination between the depot, specialist handling personnel and the onward transport provider to minimise delays between cargo availability, unloading and collection.

Following removal from the flat rack, the bulldozer was prepared for onward transport and dispatched for final delivery.

By coordinating each stage against the fixed deadline, DC Global Freight ensured the machine was delivered on Monday in time for the importer to present it at the trade show.

The Result

Despite the cargo arriving over a weekend and the extremely limited delivery window, the complete UK operation was successfully coordinated within the required timeframe.

The bulldozer was removed from the flat rack, transferred to specialist road transport and delivered by the Monday deadline.

The project demonstrates the importance of responsive freight management when project cargo movements are governed not only by vessel schedules and cargo availability, but by a non-negotiable commercial deadline at destination.

Project Type: OOG Export | ROV Equipment | Flat Rack Shipping | Project Cargo Logistics

The Challenge

DC Global Freight was appointed to coordinate the export of a substantial consignment of ROV systems and associated subsea equipment from Middlesbrough, UK to Istanbul, Turkey.

The project involved multiple pieces of specialist and oversized equipment requiring eight 40ft flat racks, two 20ft flat racks and one 20ft general-purpose container.

Due to the dimensions and configuration of the equipment, the flat racks needed to be loaded and professionally secured at origin before being transported to Felixstowe for export.

Careful coordination was required between the site, specialist loading and lashing teams, transport operators and ocean freight arrangements to ensure the equipment was safely prepared and delivered to port within the required shipping schedule.

The Solution

DC Global Freight coordinated the complete export logistics operation from collection in Middlesbrough through to shipment from Felixstowe.

The ROV systems and associated subsea equipment were carefully allocated across the flat rack and container equipment according to their dimensions, configuration and handling requirements.

Specialist loading and securing arrangements were coordinated to ensure the cargo was correctly positioned and professionally lashed for international sea transport. The oversized flat rack units were then transported by suitable specialist vehicles from Middlesbrough to Felixstowe.

DC Global Freight also coordinated the ocean freight arrangements for the complete consignment, ensuring the multiple units were managed as one project shipment through to Istanbul.

The Result

The complete ROV systems shipment was successfully prepared, secured and transported from Middlesbrough to Felixstowe for onward sea freight to Istanbul.

By coordinating the specialist loading, lashing, road transport and ocean freight requirements as a single project movement, DC Global Freight provided a controlled logistics solution for a complex multi-unit subsea equipment export.

The Solution

DC Global Freight developed and coordinated the logistics programme for the equipment demobilisation and return to the UK.

The operation required coordination of the cargo from Sheet Harbour, preparation and consolidation of the various equipment packages, Canadian road transport, ocean freight and subsequent UK distribution.

Cargo was shipped from Halifax to Liverpool, where the operation required coordinated vessel discharge and handling of the specialist equipment before onward road transport.

Following arrival in the UK, DC Global Freight coordinated customs reimport procedures and the onward movement of the equipment to its respective UK destinations, including Aberdeen and Great Yarmouth.

Careful coordination between overseas partners, vessel operators, port handling teams, customs representatives and specialist road transport providers was required throughout the operation.
